YOUR 3 WORLDS

The temporal world is where we exist. It is where we spend 90% of our time and effort. When a person awakes in the morning, he is in the temporal world. His mind, his body, his emotions and his desires are all occupied by the temporal dimension. It takes little effort to keep our thoughts and emotions centered in the temporal world.

What requires great effort is for one to refocus his mind and heart away from the demands of the temporal world into the spiritual dimension. Your personal INNER WORLD is unique. It is special. It is the only place where can experience peace and freedom. When we talk about self discipline or developing our faith, this is the dimension where these functions take place.

The Savior taught us that man was in the beginning with God as intelligences. Our intelligences cannot be created or made (D & C 93:29-30). That is, we have always existed and will continue to exist regardless of what happens to your physical body. We are also informed by the Savior that our intelligences were placed in a sphere to act for itself (2 Nephi 2:26) and not the be acted upon (2 Nephi 2:27-28). Man is free to choose what he will focus his mind upon, what he will desire in his heart and what he will hold his affections upon today.

For example, when we talk about increasing our faith in Christ, we know that the thoughts of the mind are placed upon Christ and as one holds these great thoughts in the mind, one's emotions for the Savior increases. As these feelings become intensified our action become Christ-like. You will also note that you used the spiritual dimension to develop the capacity for increased faith. That is, you sought the spiritual dimension through prayer. You sought the spiritual dimension for revelation. You sought the spiritual dimension for the gift of grace (divine power). and for the strength to keep your thoughts and feelings away from the temporal world and upon your spiritual development.

Please keep in mind that the temporal world is also an important part in developing and growing spiritually. Later we will also explore how we can use the temporal world to our advantage.
